స్త్రీ భౄణ హత్యా ధిక్కారము

Prenote: Female infanticide/feoticide is a very serious issue in India that is threatening at alarming levels. Contrary to popular belief, it is high among urban, educated, economically well to do families. This poem in Telugu is a minute attempt to show stiff opposition against this tyranny. The English translation is given below.

I sincerely thank Mlle. Achuta Manasa for suggesting me to write a poem on this issue. I tried to keep the poem more versatile in its expression and style.

LETS STOP FEMALE INFANTICIDE/FOETICIDE!!!!!!

అన్నెంపున్నెమెరుగని ఆడబిడ్డ నీకైతే బరువు

భవిష్యత్తులో ఎదుర్కోక తప్పదు నీవు కరువు

కాదురా ఆడదంటే మగాడిచేతిలో ఒక కీలుబొమ్మ

ఆమె సర్వజగత్తున ప్రపంచమానవాళికో పట్టుగొమ్మ

సమాజమే మర్రిచెట్టు

ఆడబిడ్డ ఓ లేతచిగురు

తెంపితే రాలేది ఓకే ఒక చిగురుటాకు

అలా ఒక్కొక్కటిగ నేలరాలేవి

లేతచిగురుటాకులు కాదు

మనిషి భావిమనుగడపై ఆశలు 

నిజానికి కూకటివేళ్ళతో సహా క్రమేపి పెకలించబడి

తుదకు మర్రిచెట్టే మ్రొడుబారి ఎండిపోతుంది  

మన చిన్నప్పుడెత్తుకుని లాలించి జోలలాడిన అమ్మకి మనము బరువుకానప్పుడు

నాన్నా ఎత్తుకోవా అంటు అమయాకపుప్రేమతో చేతులుజాపే ఆడపిల్ల నీకు బరువా?

కన్నతల్లిప్రేమ బోలెడంత నీకు కావాలి సరె

రేపన్నరోజున తల్లిగ మారే ఆడపిల్ల ఒద్దా? 

వేడిలేని మంట

కాంతిలేని కిరణం

స్త్రీలేని పుంసత్వం 

ఉంటే ఎంత? ఉండకుంటే ఎంత?

ఆడదంటే వెలది కాదు వేలుపని తెలుసుకో

మూఢనిద్ర వీడి మానవత్వముతో మేలుకో

English translation:

If innocent girl child is burden to you

then your future is certainly bleak

A female is not a puppet in the hands of a male

she is indeed the cornerstone for all humankind

The society is like a big banyan tree

every girl child is like a tender leaf

by plucking one, only a single leaf falls down

but in reality, that which is falling down

is not the tender leaves, but

the hope of future humankind

actually, the whole tree is being slowly uprooted

and one day it will die  

when we are young, we were not felt heavy to the mother who lifted, played and sung lullabies for us

when a girl child extends her hands and asks with innocent love, 'father, please lift me', does it feel then, heavy for you?

You need in abundance the love of your mother

in future, the child will turn into another mother, and you don't want her?

Fire without heat

Ray without light

Mankind without females

does it matter if they exist? better not

A female is not commodity to be bought, but a divinity, know that

enough with the deep slumber and get awakened by humanitarianism
